"My presentation will share experiences in founding and managing academic spin-off companies.

Topics to be discussed include the lessons learned in founding, leading and selling/exit an academic spin-off company and include case study reviews of NascaCell - a spin off which ended in disaster and Kinaxo - one ending in success.

Coverage includes how the local (German) ecosystem supported the success of my start-up companies (research funding, start-up incubators); Technology transfer and (legal) issues around commercialising university IP (illustrating different models from Max Planck and German universities) and private investment sources that aided (or hindered) the development of my companies (VC, business angels)."
